Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Once a year, my immediate family meets up somewhere tropical, typically timing it so we are escaping cold winter weather. This time around, we spent five days exploring the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, near the capital city of Liberia. It was my first time visiting the country and it was breathtaking – the colorful landscape, wildlife, and sheer beauty of nature were such a change from what I’m used to seeing in the city. I will definitely miss fish tacos and banana smoothies by the pool, but I’m feeling refreshed and ready for a New Orleans spring.
Where we stayed: Papagayo Resort & Spa
Where we ate: we mostly ate at the resort, where the food was very good, but we also had a couple of traditional Costa Rican meals outside of the resort – rice, beans, meat, plantains, cheese, and a small salad
Things we did: horseback riding, tour of Volcano Miravalles, hiking in rainforest, mud baths, enjoying the hot springs and natural sauna beside the volcano, white water rafting on the Tenorio River, massages at the resort, exploring the beaches surrounding our hotel
