I’m not usually one to pay much attention to annual rankings, but when I hear something positive about New Orleans, it always stands out – probably because I feel that the majority of media messages about this city are negative. The other day, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Inc Magazine named New Orleans “The Coolest Start-Up City in America” – full article here and, as if that wasn’t enough, I also discovered that we are #1 on the most recent Forbes list of “U.S. Biggest Brain Magnets!” – full article here.
I know that many of us choose to live here for a reason, and for me that reason is this: I see the potential; I love the friendliness, diversity, and easy-going mindset; and I am able to find a kind of comfort here that I have never had anywhere else. In the words of Chris Rose, “to be engaged in some small way in the revival of one of the great cities of the world is to live a meaningful existence by default.”
