Oriental Market

The other day, I had a sudden and unexpected longing for the authentic Korean meals I ate as a little girl growing up at my grandparents’ house.  (It’s so strange how thoughts of food can bring such strong memories.)  I talked to my grandma last week and she suggested that, since there is definitely an Asian community in this area, there is likely a local Korean market I could visit to satisfy some of my cravings.  Brilliant.  A quick online search revealed there is, in fact, one such “Oriental Market” on Transcontinental Blvd.  The familiar smells when I walked through the door were enough to make me feel like I was 4 years old again.  The shop is small, but the selection is quite expansive, and I picked up some sweet staples that remind me of being young and carefree, including Botan rice candy (I love that the children’s stickers inside the package haven’t changed in 20+ years) and red bean mochi cakes.
