The Week, In Short

Thursdays always feel like the end of my work week, probably because Fridays tend to fly by, and then the weekend has arrived.  This week has been very busy, but in a good way, the highlight of it being a departmental volunteer trip to the world’s largest food bank, Second Harvest, where we sorted and packed food items for distribution to the needy/hungry families throughout the region.  We were part of a larger group, composed of mostly youth from Vermont and Washington State here on a church trip, and my favorite encounter was with a recent high-school graduate who is starting college this fall in Nashville.  She was nervous about not knowing anyone in Tennessee, but was also very excited and hopeful about her future college experience.  Talking to her was refreshing and our conversation served as a reminder to appreciate the present moment, because it (like my own freshman year) is always gone much too soon.
